Jan 5th  - Change of plans

As often happens in Haiti, we exercise our flexibility muscle as our plan for the day changed at the breakfast table. The water truck was out of service, but there was a good chance it would be repaired quickly. We stared our day at the home for sick and dying babies. Moms, Dads and even grandparents were there to visit with their little ones. As we entered the various rooms their were still many cribs with filled with God's precious little ones needing to be loved. We quickly stepped in to serve alongside the sisters. After a few moments our interpreter shared that the sisters would like to have a couple of people wash windows. Since our team was settled in, we leaders went to task along with Valery to wash windows. It was a good reminder for me to serve wherever needed.

We received a call that the water truck was fixed and met the guys in Cite Soleil. I never seem to get tired of seeing children run toward the tap tap, struggling to be the first one picked up once the door opens. The team dove in working the water hose, moving buckets and loving on the people. We toured Hope Church and sang with the children there and were then serenaded by one of the children. Justin Bieber music is alive in well in Haiti. What a treat to hear the sound of song in this place that many only see despair. God is in Cite Soleil and we are building a house for people to know him better. 

January 4th.
 Safely arrived. We all arrived safely at PAP from various locations around the United States. We enjoyed a wonderful meal together upstairs on the balcony and took some time later in the evening to spend time with God. Today we deliver water and meet the beautiful people of Haiti with hearts and arms wide open. Glory to God.

New Year New Team 2016

Tomorrow bright and early I head back to Haiti to serve alongside some of the most amazing people God has placed in my life. Please follow our journey as we uncover what God is teaching us about his great love for all his children.  We ask for continued prayers during the week and are excited to share our story upon our return.

Happy Birthday to Miss Jess! The team celebrated her special day with ice cream cones which to say the least is pretty special for teams in Haiti.Thanks for giving us a great excuse to go to DeliMart!
Today we toured Grace Village and as always I am amazed by the people God has brought into this organization. To see the family homes that now house the orphans in a setting that allows them to grow and develop into all that God has intended them to be is amazing. To see an organization say that we don't know how to do everything right, but we are willing to learn from others and from our mistakes is extraordinary. This is why God continues to work thru Healing Haiti.
Grace Village is truly a place where children who were once hopeless find hope, who once felt unloved are loved who once did not know Jesus, now call him Savior.
We also visited our Elders. We were so amazed at their faithfulness in following Christ. Some of their children and/ or grandchildren were there when we visited. To be able to share with them the legacy their grandparent was creating for them was such a blessing for us all. As we sang with them sometimes neighbors would come join us and together we worshiped our great God.

Our team had an amazing day!  Our first stop was the home for sick and dying babies.  There we spent over 3 hours feeding, changing diapers, but most importantly giving love and affection to some of Gods precious children.  Their big brown eyes and smiles melted our hearts.

Next was Gertrude’s orphanage for children with special needs.  When we got to the gate we were greeted by one of the children with a handshake and a huge smile.  Upon checking in with the staff we sat down with the children and fed them lunch, which mainly consisted of rice, beans, and meat with a gravy sauce poured over the top.  After lunch, we had time to play on the playground and watch the children laugh and enjoy the time outdoors. 

Our next stop was the Apparent Project…a place where the Haitians take recycled materials and turn it into beautiful jewelry and wall art.   We had the opportunity to tour the facility and see the Haitians actually making the items, it was really cool!  The project is helping Haitian families stay together by giving them gainful employment and even offers free daycare to their workers.

The last stop was a grocery store.  It really wasn’t any different from the stores in the states except that chocolate was a lot of money!!!!

Brand New Team Brand New Experiences

 Team Fab Five is busy prepping for a March 16 departure!
Interesting story on our name, there were originally only 5 of us heading to Haiti - 3 from Minnesota and 2 from Texas. The day after creating our face book page we added 2 more team members from Wisconsin! So that means the other 48 states still have time to send a representative! 
I am always amazed at the people God brings together to shape my teams. I also love that some of them I know from previous trips while others I won't meet until Haiti and one that I have watch grow into a young woman with a heart for God  under my own roof. 
We will spend the next serveral weeks gathering donations,  planning activities for both the young and elderly in Haiti and serving one another. Please begin praying for this team as prayer is the constant companion of the missionary and provides a continuous outpowing of God's grace. I am so blessed to share this journey with each of you and guide you thru God's plan for you in Haiti. Allow me to show you why I love this country and it's people and worship an amazing God.

Grace Village & Wahoo Bay

We started out our morning today spending time with the kids at Grace Village. We put on an activity for the kids teaching them what they would do if they were a doctor evaluating a patient at a clinic, sang songs with the kids, and played with them on the playground, which we all loved. After that we got a relaxing afternoon at Wahoo Bay, and I have to say it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It's crazy to see how much poverty there is in Haiti, and yet in the midst of it is such astounding beauty. Seeing how beautiful the natural scenery of the mountains and the clear blue ocean is in contrast to Cite Soleil reminded me of the perfection of God's plan and His beauty.
In the middle of the poverty, in the poorest part of Cite Soleil, I could still look up and see the mountains and their beauty. What an image that is of God's glory and how he is so much bigger than this life and our sin and circumstances.

Today we got to head to Cite Soleil for our last water truck day. We worked hard filling buckets, carrying buckets to homes, and loving on babies.Then we got to head to Gertrude's home for special needs children. We all seemed to latch on to one specific child and love on them. Another perfect, perfect day full of growth, love, and changing hearts.

Day 3 Photo Diary

On day three, our group visited Grace Village located in Titanyen, a village outside of Port au Prince. We only toured it this time, but we go back later in the week to actually work with the kids.

They have a two chair dental clinic.

These are the new buildings on the Grace Village campus. Right now, the children live in dormitories. Soon, they'll be moving to these "units." There will be an adult living there too so that the children learn how a family works.

The school rooms are build sort of in the ground. There is a massive stone wall on one side to keep in the cool air. They learn English, French, and Spanish in school here.

 Along with visiting the school, we also stopped in to visit four elders in Titanyen. We made them PB&J sandwiches and gave them water. We also washed their feet.

Marie is 104 years old. She made us all give her hugs when we walked in. As you can see, we also painted her toes.

After visiting the elders, we went to visit an orphanage. We made Salvation Bracelets with them and then sang and danced.

We spent nearly an hour singing and dancing with the kids. We sang two songs and they sang around seven or eight.

Today, Tuesday June 3, our team had our first working day in Haiti. The rest of our team arrived safely from Miami. We then headed out to go to our first water truck stop in Cite Soleil. When getting off the truck all the children swarm and chant "hey you". They are the most precious and beautiful people I have ever seen. We followed with two more stops to deliver water where we got to love on more children and deliver more water to desperate families. God is working in this team as a whole and in every individual. He seems to have presented us with different attitudes and new perspectives. God is gracious, Haiti is life changing, and this adventure is fun:)
